Jason (DMA-c) is a saxophonist and ethnomusicologist currently based in Guangzhou, China. He has performed in the US and Asia as an orchestral soloist and recitalist and as a member of everything from professional orchestras and New Mexican Ranchera bands to big bands and pit orchestras. As a researcher, his work focuses on the socio-political implications of music and culture.

Jason first traveled to China in 2014 under the auspices of a Fulbright Full Research Grant (Ethnomusicology). As a guest researcher at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, he studied the history of the saxophone in China and its integration into Chinese music. Next, he was awarded a Chinese government grant where, based at the China Conservatory in Beijing, he studied traditional Chinese music and its translation to western instruments. He currently resides in southern China where he enjoys easy access to music and culture from all around South East Asia.
